
With COVID-19 ravaging the globe and all public events canceled, the music industry has been particularly devastated. Here’s the latest edition of Five in 5, or 5 news stories that you can read in five minutes or less:
1. Bill Withers dead
Bill Withers, known for songs like “Lean on Me” and “Ain’t No Sunshine,” died this past week at the age of 81. According to the Associated Press, Withers’ death was the result of “heart complications.” Rest in Peace, Mr. Withers and thank you for sharing your music with the world.
2. P!nk shares COVID-19 diagnosis, donates $1 million to relief efforts
P!nk shared on Twitter this week that she and her son both tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). In addition, she shared that she donated $500,000 to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia (where her mother was an employee for 18 years) and another $500,000 to the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Relief Fund.
3. CMA Fest 2020 canceled
The Country Music Association announced this week that CMA Fest 2020 has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. “We cannot in good conscience risk the health and well-being of our fans, artists, staff and Country Music community,” the Association said in a statement posted on their official website.
4. ACM Presents: Our Country to air on CBS tonight
ACM Presents: Our Country will air on CBS tonight at 8pm ET/PT. The special is replacing the Academy of Country Music Awards (ACMs), which has been postponed to September due to COVID-19. View the full set list below:
5. Live Nation posts Live From Home Virtual Concert Schedule
Live Nation has posted a Live From Home virtual concert schedule on their website to keep fans entertained during COVID-19 social distancing. The line-up includes performances from Tori Kelly, Melissa Etheridge, Echosmith, Phish, and more.
