With the end of 2021 quickly approaching, I wanted to look back at the year and reflect on my favorite songs, artists, and music moments. Read on for more:
Favorite New Artist I Discovered
I’d previously heard of country duo Smithfield–comprised of best friends Trey Smith and Jenn Fielder–but it wasn’t until this year that I really got into their music. One thing that I found most impressive about them? Their incredible harmonies. Check it out below:
An Artist Whose Talent I’ve Been Sleeping On
I admit when Olivia Rodrigo‘s song, “drivers license” starting gaining steam, I kind of blew it off as “overrated.” Then, I actually listened to the song and realized she’s a formidable talent on a pretty good trajectory thus far. While I’m not a super fan, I’ve come to appreciate songs like “good 4 u” and “favorite crime” and am interested to hear how she follows up on the success of her debut album, SOUR. An Artist I Grew to Love That Much More
This one goes to Riley Clemmons, a Christian artist who writes amazing songs about God and faith and makes them insanely catchy. Watch her perform “Headspace” from her album, Godsend here:
An Artist I Rooted For This Year
My favorite artist to root for this year was Carly Pearce, hands down. She released her vulnerable 29 EP before turning it into her third full-length studio album, 29: Written In Stone, was inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, and won her first CMA for Female Vocalist of the Year. I honestly can’t wait to see what she does in 2022. Watch her freak out over her CMA win:
A Music Video With Incredible Storytelling
Country singers Carly Pearce and Ashley McBryde absolutely blew me away with the music video for their collaboration, “Never Wanted To Be That Girl,” which appears on Carly’s 29: Written In Stone album. Their acting came across as emotional and authentic and made the viewer feel empathetic toward each of the women being cheated on. Watch it:
An Album That Made Me Nostalgic
This is a tie between Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version). If you know me in real life or have learned anything about me from my blog, it’s that Taylor Swift is my all-time favorite artist. I loved getting to re-live the emotions behind each of these albums and I’m looking forward to hopefully hearing more of her re-recordings in the new year. A Song I Couldn’t Wait To Listen To
The 10-Minute Version of “All Too Well” was definitely the song I was most excited to listen to this year. While the original still holds a special place in my heart, the extended version has definitely grown on me. Since Taylor released her new version of Red, I’ve become completely obsessed with the “Sad Girl Autumn Version” recorded at Long Pond Studios. The black and white video filter really adds to the emotional vibe of the song, am I right? Decide for yourself:
A Song I Fell Back in Love With
I’ve always loved country music group Lonestar‘s song, “Amazed,” but I fell in love with the song all over again when Paris Winningham performed it on this season of The Voice representing Team Blake. If he doesn’t walk away as this season’s champion, I’m going to be very disappointed. Watch Paris absolutely crush his performance here:
And that’s a wrap on my favorite music moments, artists, and songs of 2021. I’m also looking forward to another great year of music in 2022.
