Taylor Swift has written a new song.
The country turned pop singer shared she’d written a track called “Carolina” for the film adaptation of the popular novel, “Where The Crawdads Sing” in an Instagram post Tuesday.
In her post, Swift said she wrote the song alone and asked her friend and folklore and evermore collaborator, Aaron Dessner to help produce it. Swift also said she “got absolutely lost in” the novel written by Delia Owens and knew she wanted to be involved in the film from the “musical side” as soon as news about the adaptation broke.
Where The Crawdads Sing is a book I got absolutely lost in when I read it years ago. As soon as I heard there was a film in the works starring the incredible @daisyedgarjones and produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I wanted to be a part of it from the musical side. I wrote the song “Carolina” alone and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something haunting and ethereal to match this mesmerizing story. You’ll hear it fully soon, but for now check out the @crawdadsmovie trailer for a clip!

“You didn’t see me here / No, they never did see me here / There are places I will never, ever go to / Things that only Carolina will ever know,” Swift sings on the haunting track.
“Where The Crawdads Sing” tells the story of “Marsh Girl” Kya Clark, according to the novel’s official description on Amazon. Kya, who lives alone on the marsh in a town in North Carolina, becomes the suspect in a local murder in 1969 while also being romantically pursued by two young men.
The film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones as Kya and hits theaters on July 15, according to People. The film is being produced by actress Reese Witherspoon‘s company Hello Sunshine, People also said. Witherspoon featured the 2018 novel as one of her book club picks, according to the outlet.
While the full version of “Carolina” is not yet available, fans can listen to a snippet of the song in the movie’s trailer, starting at the 1:15 mark.
