Keegan Allen covered Taylor Swift’s infectious breakup anthem, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

The actor, who is best known for his role as Toby Cavanaugh on the teen drama, Pretty Little Liars, posted a 15-second video of himself covering Swift’s song back in 2012 on the now-defunct social media platform, Viddy. While the platform shut down in 2014, the video has been shared to YouTube by a user named Elaine Cervania.

Allen can be seen playing guitar and singing the chorus of Swift’s popular song in the black and white video.

Allen also performed a longer cover of the song at Spiedie Fest in 2013.

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” is not the only song of Swift’s that Allen has covered. A video posted by the same YouTube user featured the actor singing “Safe And Sound,” Swift’s collaboration with The Civil Wars that appeared on the Hunger Games soundtrack.

Allen actually met Swift at the 2012 Teen Choice Awards and got a photo with the songstress thanks to her long-time pal, actress/singer Selena Gomez. And in a 2018 interview with Young Hollywood, Allen revealed that upon meeting Swift, he asked her if they could write music together.

“When I took [the photo with Taylor], I was like, ‘we should write music together,’” Allen said during the interview. “And she’s like, ‘yeah, sure, give me your number,’ but back then we didn’t really, phones were weird back then. It was like 3G, the iPhone was different,” the actor explained.

“So I went back to my seat and I was with Sasha [Pieterse] from my show and I was like, ‘hey, do you have anything to write on?’ and she gave me her eyeliner pen and a piece of confetti, which was the worst thing to write on, and, uh, I wrote my number, but then I ran over to Taylor, and I was like, ‘here’s my number.’ But then I realized, okay, so you take charcoal and you put it in confetti, and then you fold it, and it just becomes nothing. Ultimately, it’s just a smudged piece of confetti. And I was like, ‘here you go,’ and she was like, ‘alright,’ and I was like, ‘see ya,’ and then I left, and that was it,” he added.

Allen is such a big fan of Swift, he once shared that he would love for her to guest star on his show, Pretty Little Liars. But just like their plans to write a song together, that never happened. (The series which catapulted Allen into fame ended after seven seasons in 2017).

Although Allen and Swift’s songwriting session never materialized, the actor has continued to pursue music, releasing his original songs, “Million Miles Away,” “Inside Day,” and “Time and Lemonade” in 2017, 2018, and 2020, respectively.

In addition, the actor often posts videos of both covers and his original music on Instagram.

Besides music and acting, Allen is passionate about photography as well. Allen has published two books containing his photographs, life.love.beauty (released in 2015) and Hollywood (released in 2018).

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” was the lead single on Swift’s fourth studio album, RED (2012). Swift re-released her RED album, calling it Red (Taylor’s Version) in November 2021.

Swift’s decision to re-release her previous albums–including RED–followed her former record label president’s decision to sell her master recordings.
