Hi and Happy Fall, everyone! Now that summer’s over and September’s in full swing, I’m back with another edition of What I’ve Been Listening To. Read on for my latest round of song picks:

“Pick Me Up,” Gabby Barrett
Gabby Barrett looks to her love for emotional support after a rough day on this track from her 2020 album, Goldmine. Fun fact: Barrett enlisted her husband/guitarist, Cade Foehner to star opposite her in the song’s music video.
Standout Lyrics: We could ride on past every one-light street/Watch a full moon crash on some sunrise wheat/You can kiss me fast and drive real slow/That old Chevy made, take as long as it takes/You and Jesus will fix my soul/So pick me up/Get me lost way out, down a back two-lane, little George Strait/Way on up/Get me outta my head and outta this town/And tell me no matter what/You’ll be by my side, everything gonna be alright/Make the world go black how you do me like that/When I climb up in your truck, just pick me up
“Like My Father,” Jax
Jax longs for a love that is comparable to her parents’ relationship on this upbeat pop track. This is seriously the best love song I’ve heard in a while.
Standout Lyrics: I want a road trip in the summers/I wanna make fun of each other/I wanna rock out to Billy Joel/And flip our kids off when they call us old/He’ll accidentally burn our dinner/And let me be the Scrabble winner/And when my body changes shapes/He’ll say, “Oh my God, you look hot today”/I need a man who’s patient and kind/Gets out of the car and holds the door/I wanna slow dance in the living room like/We’re eighteen at senior prom and grow/Old with someone who makes me feel young/I need a man who loves me like/My father loves my mom
“THE LITTLE THINGS,” Kelsea Ballerini
This super up-tempo song from Kelsea Ballerini‘s latest album, Subject To Change (released Sept. 23) is insanely catchy and danceable. I’ll admit I’ve broken the repeat button listening to this one.
Standout Lyrics: Save your money on the roses, baby/Just leave a daisy on the dashboard/Just pick me up in your old Bronco, baby/Don’t gotta ride in on a white horse/When you’re younger they say it’s a kiss in the rain/Throwing rocks at a window/But it’s when we’re in a crowded room, put your hand on my back/And waiting on me in the morning with my coffee black/Back to the basics ’cause they’re bigger than they seem, yeah/Give me that typical, simple love, it’s the little things/Yeah, it’s the little things/It’s the little things

“As Long As Our Hearts Are Beating,” Jenny & Tyler
I first heard this beautiful love song from married singer-songwriters Jenny & Tyler on an episode of Pretty Little Liars and was recently reminded of why I’m obsessed with it. If you or someone you know is getting married, consider using this one as your first dance song.

“Wasted On You,” Morgan Wallen
I was also recently reminded how good this song from Morgan Wallen is–from the opening melody to his vocals to that “three chords and the truth” honesty that is synonymous with country music. An overall stunner.

“I GUESS THEY CALL IT FALLIN,’” Kelsea Ballerini
Ballerini makes an emotionally heavy song about heartbreak a pop-leaning earworm on this track from SUBJECT TO CHANGE. I’ve only listened to her new album in its entirety once, but this song is already one of my favorites.
